Mooncakes 2019

August 26, 2019 Uncategorized

The mid-autumn festival is approaching and there is a peculiar tradition connected to it: mooncakes.

These little concentrated sweets have a long tradition in the Chinese culture, but what if the Italian culinary tradition comes in?
The gelato mooncakes are born.

Musolesi Italian Gelato also this year decided to create an exclusive set of gelato mooncakes called “Emozioni” (Feelings) that will melt the hearth (and melt in the mouth) even of the most traditional mooncake lovers. They are not only a delicious gift to share with friends and colleagues but also a treat for anybody who wants to share feelings through the happiness of gelato.

The set of gelato mooncakes is composed by “Gentile” (Kind, gentle), made of pistachio gelato and hazelnuts from Italy (variety “Tonda Gentile”), and “Timida” (Shy), made of stracciatella gelato and refreshing strawberry. But it’s not over, because in the set there are also 2 sauces to couple with the mooncakes and create a new way of eating and sharing mooncakes, a dark chocolate sauce and a salted caramel sauce.

The gelato mooncakes are like gifting your beloved a little journey to Italy while celebrating one of the most important Chinese festivities.

BONUS RECIPE – Scones cookies for gelato
For a twist to your gelato mooncakes why not to bake a very simple scone cookie?
Here’s a foolproof recipe:

200 g flour
50 g butter
25 g sugar
150 – 170 g milk
a pinch of salt
chocolate chips, goji berries, red dates pieces…

Preheat the oven at 200°C, mix flour with sugar and salt then add butter and start stirring. when the butter is incorporated add the milk to obtain a soft but compact dough and add if you like chocolate pieces or dry fruits.
Roll the dough to a 1.5 cm height and cut in circular pieces.
Bake for 12-15 minutes and, while still warm, spread the sauces in the mooncake set on the scone, and eat them together with the gelato mooncakes.
